Dialogue 3

The curtain opens and the stage lights come up on a men's restroom. The backs of two urinals face the audience. Two stalls are not far from the two urinals. Both sets of bathroom equipment are, at present, unoccupied.

Enter Meursault, stands at urinal on stage left. Unzipping motions are made. Enter Prufrock.

Prufrock: Do I dare use the restroom now? Perhaps it is not the time. But perhaps I will not have time later. However, there is time in a minute for decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse...

Meursault:: Does it really matter? Just go now. Make the choice to go now...

Prufrock: However, one cannot force these things...

Meursault:: Make the choice...

Prufrock stands at urinal, stage right . Unzipping motions are made. Prufrock waits, with no fruition. Meursault peeks over the edge and peers down at Prufrock. Prufrock blushes furiously.

Prufrock: (thinking) He will say, how my hair is growing thin!

Prufrock continues to wait, now close to tears.

Meursault:: (obviously staring) Well, it's nothing to cry about...nothing at all is worth crying about.

Prufrock: Have you not finished yet?

Meursault:: I will decide when I am finished. And when I am done, then I will leave. However, I will decide for myself.

Prufrock: How long have you been here?
